NCDC COVID-19 DASHBOARD

COVID-19 Case Tracking and Analysis in Nigeria

This Power BI dashboard provides a critical overview of COVID-19 case statistics in Nigeria, as reported by the NCDC (Nigeria Centre for Disease Control). It offers a clear, interactive visualization of active, confirmed, and discharged cases, with a breakdown by state, enabling stakeholders to monitor the pandemic's status and trends.

Project Overview & Analytical Goals

The primary objective of this dashboard is to provide a comprehensive and easily digestible view of key COVID-19 metrics. The analytical goals include:

  • Tracking the total number of Active, Confirmed, and Discharged COVID-19 cases in Nigeria.
  • Identifying the states with the highest number of Active Cases.
  • Highlighting the top states for Confirmed Cases.
  • Showing the distribution of Discharged Cases across states.
  • Providing a snapshot of the current pandemic situation to aid public health understanding and decision-making.

Data Source

The data for this dashboard would typically be sourced from official public health records, such as those provided by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC). This involves daily or periodic reporting of case numbers, which would then be compiled and processed for visualization.

Key Metrics & Insights

The dashboard prominently displays key performance indicators and offers a clear breakdown of case distribution:

  • Total Active Cases: The dashboard shows 3,573 active cases, representing individuals currently infected and undergoing treatment or isolation.
  • Total Confirmed Cases: A total of 266,675 confirmed cases are reported, indicating the cumulative number of individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19.
  • Total Discharged Cases: An impressive 259,953 individuals have been discharged after recovering from the virus, reflecting the success of treatment and recovery efforts.
  • State-level Distribution (Active Cases): Lagos leads with 1,143 active cases, followed by Delta (576), Nasarawa (469), Kwara (452), Niger (165), and Adamawa (134).
  • State-level Distribution (Confirmed Cases): Lagos also has the highest number of confirmed cases at 104,286, followed by FCT (29,535), Rivers (18,112), Kaduna (11,675), Plateau (10,365), and Oyo (10,352).
  • State-level Distribution (Discharged Cases): Consistent with confirmed cases, Lagos has the most discharged cases at 29,277, with FCT (29,277), Rivers (17,960), Kaduna (11,583), Plateau (10,286), and Oyo (10,150) following.

Recommendations

  • Targeted Interventions: Focus public health resources and interventions on states with high active case counts like Lagos, Delta, and Nasarawa.
  • Awareness Campaigns: Continue and adapt public awareness campaigns on preventive measures (e.g., vaccination, hygiene, social distancing), especially in high-burden areas.
  • Resource Allocation: Ensure adequate medical supplies, testing capacity, and personnel are available in states with high confirmed and active case numbers.
  • Monitoring Trends: Continuously monitor changes in case numbers and distributions to identify potential new outbreaks or shifting patterns.

Project Impact & Value Proposition

This NCDC COVID-19 Dashboard demonstrates the powerful application of data visualization in public health. Its value proposition includes:

  • Informing Public Health Decisions: Providing up-to-date and easily understandable data to inform policy-making, resource allocation, and strategic planning for pandemic response.
  • Enhancing Public Awareness: Offering a transparent view of the pandemic's status, which can help educate the public and encourage adherence to health guidelines.
  • Showcasing Data Analysis Skills: Highlights proficiency in data aggregation, KPI development, and creating informative, interactive dashboards in Power BI for critical public interest domains.
